The TACTIC Smart is a multifunctional Mobile Variable Message System (M-VMS). In addition to emergency services and road authorities, we see the TACTIC Smart is also popular with companies that are responsible for road work and landscaping along roads, but also as a marketing tool. During the development of our mobile traffic information system, the safety of road users and users of the TACTIC Smart was paramount.

Various aspects have been investigated together with the Delft University of Technology to ensure that the TACTIC Smart makes an important contribution to road safety.

Additional options are available

The TACTIC Smart is distinguished by his simple but multifunctional design: the system has got all functionalities to alert all road users.

The system has a standard configuration of:

  • Full-colour LED display;
  • Extensive and “easy to use” control panel;
  • Preset images and scenarios.

There are some more options to increase the user friendliness:

  • Available in multiple dimensions (80 x 32, 48 x 48 or 64 x 64 pixels);
  • Integration of other communication resources available in system and APP;
  • Unlimited access to personalised texts, images, slideshows and scenarios;
  • 2nd touchscreen for the use of the TACTIC APP;
  • Emergency stop.

Uniform operating module

Uniform control module

The control of the TACTIC Smart can be done in multiple ways, via:

  • Fixed touchscreen in the vehicle;
  • Tablet.

Both use specially developed and uniform control software. It can be used with Android operating systems.

The tablet option is connected to the TACTIC via a secure Wi-Fi connection.

With the control application, the TACTIC can be operated from the dashboard in the vehicle, or with a tablet from behind a crash barrier. This makes it extremely safe for the user. There is a choice of pre-programmed symbols and scenarios to quickly switch between images. A high ease of use guaranteed.

The matrix board can display a self-entered text which can be set via an input field in the control application. The application also controls the optical signalling, like lightening modules or other communication resources.

In addition, scenarios can be set up so that ‘one-push action‘ is sufficient to activate a number of actions and images.

Optimum flexibele usability

Pick-ups, company cars but the TACTIC Smart can also be placed on passenger cars.

Because the weight of the TACTIC Smart remains within the permitted roof load, there is a possibility of universal positioning on the roof of any vehicle and therefore the TACTIC Smart can be mounted on almost any type of vehicle.

There are substantial advantages compared to a system placed in an open cargo area (pick-up vehicle). The biggest advantage is the weight saving which can be realized. This means:

  • Better handling of the vehicle;
  • Easier and faster (re)moval of the information system;
  • Large space-saving of approximately 50 centimetres.

Operational speed

Drivable up to 130km/h (80 mph)

The TACTIC Smart is open and functional to operate up to 130 km/h (80 mph), which gives the user of the system the opportunity to inform and warn road users early and while driving. The option exists to make vehicles follow or stop, for this, we have designed special images.

Maintenance-friendly

Aluminium and stainless steel construction

By using high-quality materials, resistant to extreme weather influences; long service life is guaranteed.

The TACTIC Smart consists of an aluminium and stainless steel construction. Thanks to the use of high-quality materials, the TACTIC is resistant to extreme weather conditions; the TACTIC has been tested between temperatures of -30° and +50° Celcius. The use of lubrication-free bearings and maintenance-free actuators guarantees a long service life and requires little maintenance on the TACTIC.

Because the service frequency is lower, it is possible to save on maintenance costs compared to other information systems.

Multifunctional employable

Multifunctional design for optimal flexibility

Besides the conventional way of mounting the TACTIC Smart on the roof, it is also possible to mount the LED-Display on a rear panel with by TTI Partners designed mount brackets. With this way of mounting the Display on a rear panel, TTI Partners has created a solution to send messages fast and clear from the back of a pick-up truck, trailer or other vehicles like tram, metro or train.

Because of the easy way of mounting, the TACTIC Smart without framework is applicable on every type of vehicle. The system is easy to extend by other communication resources like a traffic advisor. The TACTIC Smart is employable in multiple branches for multiple goals. Optimum flexibility!
